Connecting the Line: The Inspiration

I named my mask “Connecting the Line.” I wanted to depict the connection that Jamaica and Ghana have through their culture and their history. The colors representing uniting Jamaica (the Jamaican Flag) back to the Ghanaian homeland (Ghanaian flag). They are separated through water, but they are connected through their pain and culture. Although Jamaicans were separated by the slave trade and forced to remove their previous identity, the culture brings Ghanaians and Jamaicans together, making them whole once again. The mask for me felt like a full circle and a way to depict the feeling of returning home.
