The 27th United Nations climate conference took place this month, with data suggesting that the goal of keeping global warming under 1.5 degrees Celsius (the threshold that would signify dangerous interference with the world’s climate) may not be met. Global warming is something that affects all countries of the world through water shortages, fire threats, intense storms, and so much more. However, we are also seeing the impacts of climate change on our collective mental health, as these natural disasters result in anxiety, distress, and trauma for many. Within the mask, the purple (symbolizing the earth and healing) stands in contrast to the blackness of the eyes (meant to communicate grief surrounding the current state). The colors blue and orange are meant to symbolize the sky and sun. We also chose to include two Adinkra symbols. The first, asase ye duru, represents the importance of the Earth in sustaining life. The second, nyansapo, is the symbol of wisdom, ingenuity, intelligence, and patience. In order to change the current tide, we need the people of the Earth to recognize the delicate balance of life and to use their collective wisdom to take action
